Panoramic shots of the Arcachon Bay
3 places offer superb panoramic views of the bay:
1. The Cap Ferret lighthouse
A breathtaking 360° natural view from the top of the lighthouse (52 metres). Undoubtedly the best view of the Pilat dune, with the Arguin sandbank in the foreground. In case climbing 258 steps puts you off, you will find other great spots for family snapshots.
2. The Pilat dune
From the top of the dune, you can contemplate the Arguin sandbank and the entire Cap Ferret point. Discover your creative potential offered by the sand immensity and shoot a unique group picture !
3. The Sainte Cecile observatory
Located in Arcachon, the Sainte Cécile observatory is a metallic tower overhung by an observatory platform that offers a panoramic view of the entire bay. I find it to be the best spot to photography the Bird Island and its emblematic houses on stilts! Less high than the Cap Ferret lighthouse (25 metres), the observatory remains a favourite of mine for panoramic shots.
Atmospheric and otreiculture pictures
The picturesque and colourful houses of the oyster villages are perfect graphic settings for photography.
Should you wish to shoot the local “pinasses” in the bay of Arcachon, the Aiguillon port early in the morning is ideal. It is a well known spot for local photographers.
For beautiful sunsets, go to the Pilat dune or the Moulleau beach. Pineforests, sea fronts, wooden shacks … you will find endless opportunities to bring out your camera in Arcachon or Cap Ferret and record this unique and breathtaking cocktail of light, colours and natural landscapes.
