1. Enjoy the beaches
The Cap Ferret specificity is to offer 2 types of beaches: ocean beaches and bay beaches. Choose from 25 km of ine sand.
For children swimming, a kayak family outing or coast fishing, enjoy the bay side and plan activities according to the tides.
For more adventurous swimming and board sports (surfing, kitesurfing, etc.), head for the ocean beaches. Cap Ferret beaches attract every year a large number of keen tourists.
2. Stride through the market
A great holiday classic, the Cap Ferret market cannot be missed ! Inside, excellent food produce can be found, especially seafood. But you can also find tapenades, olives “chez Cécile”(a friend of mine !), cheeses, meat, seasonal fruit and vegetables …
Outside, all sorts of stalls offer goods of a very wide and high quality : clothing, shoes, hats, decoration, jewellery, scarfs, etc.
3. Visit the lighthouse
This is one of the best viewpoints on the whole bay, with the majestic Pilat dune in the background, the Arguin sandbank and the water channels that run from bay to ocean, the Cap Ferret woodlands, the oysterbeds…
The lighthouse was originally built in 1840 and then rebuilt after its destruction during the war. You get to the top by climbing 258 steps. But it is worth it! I prefer to visit it at low tide when you can really apprreciate its diversity and specificity.
On the ground floor, an interactive exhibit helps to understand the lighthouse history and the marine maps evolutionary process. Not to mention the pretty boutique at the end of the visit, where you will find lighthouse stamped souvenirs ! A lovely family outing.
4. Strolling through the boutiques
The Cap Ferret offers the widest concentration of upmarket boutiques of the area. Fashionable clothing, boardshorts and surf shops, crafted jewellery, driftwood and home shack décor, etc. you will no doubt find your dream souvenir… and not necessarily overpriced. The Cap Ferret remains chic and relaxed.
5. Oyster tasting
After visiting, buying food at the market, shopping in the boutiques, and enjoying the seaside pleasures, your day would not be complete without eating oysters in the Fishing Village! Time to meet up in the oyster village of Cap Ferret on one of the many terraces facing the conche. I promise you a treat for your eyes and your tastebuds.
